Adventuring in Costa Rica
Rich bio diversity and distinct eco zones make adventures in this peaceful country unique
Traveling to exotic locales to pursue adventure can be a highlight of the outdoor lifestyle. Here, photographer Adam Jaquette shows us the wild side to Costa Rica in this collection of images.
“With its rich biodiversity and numerous distinct ecosystems,” Jaquette said, “Costa Rica is an ideal destination for nature lovers of all stripes. In a matter of three days, we traversed hanging bridges in the cloud forest, hike to waterfalls fed by hot springs, lounged on the beach, and canoed through mangrove swamps crawling with troupes of howler monkeys. While it is easy to spend the day hiking jungle trails, one could just as easily stay put and witness a parade of white faced monkeys, macaws, insects, and sloths. It’s clear the people of Costa Rica value their rich, natural heritage and strive to enjoy it through sustainable means.”
Jaquette is a professional author and educator who spends much of his time traveling the globe. He has traveled and photographed extensively through Asia, Europe, and North America, specializing in hiking and scuba diving. His photographs have appeared in numerous publications.
"When capturing my images," Jaquette said, "I look to find the feel and mood of a particular landscape. I look to sum up the real experience in one frame in a way which beckons others to want to visit. When trying to capture wildlife, I try to focus on the animal's face. Our eyes are drawn to faces and it is how we relate to these wild animals in human terms."
